A Catalog of Sequence Generators:
Accounting for Proximity, Pattern, Exclusion, Balance and/or Randomness

Leonardo Music Journal, Vol. 2, No. 1, 1992, pp. 55-72.

This article surveys sequence-generating algorithms. Considerations are discussed for implementing sequence generators in both conventional and object-oriented programming languages. Each generator is evaluated with regard to both distribution and modes of dependence. The standard random number generator becomes a basis of comparison for more exotic generators guided by conditional probability, by chaos and by statistical feedback.
